DIY Kitchen Shelves
A kitchen is the heart of a home, the place where people meet to prepare and enjoy food together, create new meals and let children bang on the pots and pans. A key component of any successful kitchen is adequate storage space. For many kitchens without enough cupboards or built-in storage, do-it-yourself shelving can be the perfect solution to store food, display treasured cookware, or contain the overflow of cooking and serving utensils. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Mark the desired areas for your shelving on the wall with a pencil.
-
2
Pass the stud finder back and forth across the section of the wall you are using, and mark the stud locations. As kitchen shelves generally hold much more weight then decorative shelves, attach them to studs for extra capacity.
-
-
3
Measure the distance between your studs with a tape measure. This will be the distance between the brackets on your shelf. Measure that same distance on your shelf, and make lines where you will be placing the brackets.
-
4
Line up the brackets on your shelf, and mark the location of the holes. Pre-drill these holes, being careful not to drill all the way through the shelf. Screw the brackets in place with the drill, being careful not to puncture the top surface of the shelf.
-
5
Hold the shelf against the wall and set the level above it. Line up the shelf until the air bubble in the level is directly in the center of the level. Mark the wall through the screw holes in the bracket. Make sure the brackets are still over the studs.
-
6
Pre-drill the holes in the wall. Attach the shelf to the wall, using screws and the drill, and screw all the screws in halfway before fully tightening them. This will help ensure a level shelf.

Tips & Warnings
Stain, paint or varnish your shelves before hanging if you like, though natural wood shelving also works well in kitchens.
Hang mugs or other items from your shelving, using hooks.
Never overload your shelving. If you notice a tilt, remove excess weight and add further brackets for additional support.
