How to Add Custom Songs for Guitar Hero 3 on the PC
Guitar Hero 3 features a wide range of songs that provide hours of entertainment straight out of the box. The game covers songs from multiple genres that span across many eras. This means that users will be able to enjoy classics like the Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black" all the way up to Metallica's "One." The PC version has the added bonus of being able to import custom songs into the interface, which creates an unlimited amount of game play and allows players to create their own experience. This simple process only requires a few steps and some free software.

File Preparation

Download Song List Editor v032 (and extract the file contents to a folder on the main hard drive.

Open the folder that contains the Song List Editor v032 files and start the program by clicking on the "songlist_editor.exe" file.

Select "File," then "Open" and click "OK" with the "DATA" folder from the Guitar Hero 3 directory selected.

Open an Internet browser and navigate to the ScoreHero website.

Create an account at ScoreHero.

Browse to the "Custom Songs" area of ScoreHero.

Click "Browse Database" and search for the song that you want to add to Guitar Hero 3.

Download the chart file of the desired song.

Download Chart2Mid2Chart.

Open Chart2Mid2Chart and press "Browse" to locate the downloaded chart file.

Verify that "Guitar Hero" is selected as the output type and press "Convert" to create the required MIDI file.
Adding the Custom Song

Open the "Song List Editor" and select "Insert New Song."

Type the name of the song in lowercase.

Click the browse button beside the "Guitar Track" field and select the MP3 or OGG file of the custom song. Repeat for "Rhythm Track" and "Song Track."

Select the MIDI file created in the previous section for the "MIDI" field.

Fill in the "Song Title," "Artist" and "Year" fields with the appropriate information and press "OK."

Press "Edit Setlists" in the "Song List Editor" after the conversion has finished.

Select "Bonus Songs" from the "Set List" dropdown options.

Increase the "Songs per Tier" count by 1.

Select the last song in the "Song Number" dropdown list.

Select the custom song from the dropdown list in the "Song" menu and click "OK."

Select "File," "Save" and click "OK" in the dialog box.
Playing the Custom Song

Make backup copies of the Guitar Hero 3 saved game files.

Load Guitar Hero 3 and ignore the "Corrupt Content Warning."

Select "Delete Content."

Select "Options," then "Cheats" and strum the green fret twice to unlock the bonus songs playlist.

Select "Quickplay" from the main menu and select the custom song from the end of the bonus list.
