Instructions

    • 1

Place a level on the floor between the two sides of the door frame. If the door is unlevel, you will have to trim the doorjamb so that the doorjamb will fit in the door frame.

    • 2

Measure the left side of the door frame from the top to the floor. Transfer this measurement to the left doorjamb, and trim the doorjamb with a saw, if necessary. Repeat the right side of the frame and doorjamb.

    • 3

Place the doorjamb and door inside the doorframe, and temporarily tack the door into the frame. Hammer eight penny nails into the hinge side, just enough to hold the door in place. Do not drive the nails all the way into the doorjamb and frame, as you will remove them later.

    • 4

Check that the doorjamb is level on the hinge side of the door. Level the doorjamb by placing shims between the frame and the doorjamb. Shims are small wedges of wood designed to help fill gaps for leveling a project.

    • 5

Repeat the leveling process on the latch side of the door. When the doorjamb and door are level in the frame, drive 3-inch wood screws through the doorjamb and into the frame.
