How to Connect a Switch to a DSL Modem
Most DSL modems offered by broadband companies, such as the Motorola SB5101 SURFboard modem used by Comcast, do not have multiple Ethernet ports. This means that you can only connect one wired device to the Internet. Fortunately, you can solve this problem by using a device known as an Ethernet switch. Connecting a switch to your DSL modem is simple and will allow you to connect multiple computers and other Ethernet-ready devices, such as printers and servers, to your home network.

1
Connect your Ethernet switch to your DSL Internet modem using an Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into a WAN port on your DSL modem.
-
2
Firmly insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the WAN port of your Ethernet switch. The WAN port, which is usually labeled as such, is often a different color from the other LAN ports.
-
-
3
Power the Ethernet switch by plugging it into the AC power adapter that was included with the device.

4
Connect your computer to the Ethernet switch using an Ethernet cable. Plug one end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on your switch. Insert the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your computer. You have now successfully added a switch to your DSL modem.

Will this work with a Panasonic G20 internet tv and airport express? I can't get them to work simultaneously. Or, do I need to break down and get a router?
