DIY Magazine Holder
If you like to keep your old magazines, you may have a hard time keeping them organized. The glossy paper used in most magazines means that they don't always stand up well on a shelf or in a stack, so they can make your bookshelves look disheveled. If you have a few cereal boxes and some crafty skills, you can make a DIY magazine holder to display on your shelf with pride. Now your magazines will have a home of their own and your shelves will look organized and fashionable.

Take an empty cereal box and cut off the top flaps. Position the box so that one wide side faces you; we will call this the front. Measure from the top left corner of this side to a point that is approximately 1/3 of the distance of the top edge. Mark this spot along the top edge of the box. Now measure the right side, approximately halfway down, and mark that spot. Cut in a diagonal line from the top edge to the side edge, making your cut along the invisible line between the two points you have marked. Repeat this process on the other side of the box. Make one last cut, going across the short edge of the box between the two points you have already marked and cut. This will remove the cut portion entirely. Essentially, you should have a cereal box with an L shape to its base and a triangular shape cut out of one top corner.

Lay out a piece of shelf liner paper with the patterned side down. Trace the two large and two narrow sides of your cereal box onto the paper with a pencil. Cut out these shapes.

Remove the protective backing from the shelf liner paper and attach it to the corresponding areas on the magazine holder. Smooth it out as you go to avoid creases or bubbles. If you are using regular decorative paper for these, such as wrapping paper or scrap book paper, simply add glue to the wrong side of the paper and attach it to the cereal box that way.

Attach a label holder frame to the narrow side of the cereal box where the cutout portion is. Use a small amount of craft glue to stick it to the box. Slide a label inside and write on the label to indicate the name of the magazines inside and possibly the publication dates.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't want to cut a triangular shape out of your box, simply remove one narrow side altogether and slide your magazines into the magazine holder that way.
