Set the size of Google Maps to display more detail.

The Google Maps application enables you to travel to distant locations using nothing more than your mouse and keyboard. Visit the Google Maps website to zoom in on satellite, map and street-level views of locations from around the world. If you need to set the size of any of the map views, use the convenient zoom buttons located on the side of the user interface. Zooming in on a location makes it easier to identify details. Zooming out gives you an overview of the entire area and simplifies navigation within the map.

Instructions

    • 1

Click one of the view buttons located at the top of the screen to select a satellite, map or street-level view of the area.

    • 2

Double-click any area of your selected map view to zoom in. The map will resize and display more detail. Continue to double-click the map until it ceases to zoom. At that point, you will have reached maximum magnification level. You will not be able to make the map any bigger.

    • 3

Click the minus sign icon located on the left of the map view to zoom out. The map will resize and display a larger viewing area.

    • 4

Click the plus sign icon to zoom in again. This is another way to resize the map and view objects in detail. Use the resizing method that works best for you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Firefox and Internet Explorer users will see a continuous, animated zoom when they use the double-click feature to zoom in on a location. Resize the map when you want to take screenshots of a location at varying degrees of magnification.
