On a hot summer's day, there's nothing better than getting ice from a machine like the Monogram Ice Maker. Although it may seem a bit complicated to clean out the inside of an ice maker system, the process is easier than asking, "Do you want ice with that?"

Video of the Day

According to the Monogram Ice Maker owner's manual, one of the major benefits of owning this product is that the "clean" light signal will illuminate yellow when it's almost time to clean the machine. When the machine signals yellow, you should purchase the Nickel Safe Ice Machine Cleaner by Nu-Calgon before it signals red. When the machine ultimately signals red, you need to clean it immediately, or else the ice production will reduce and eventually stop.

Cleaning the Exterior Surfaces

GE Nugget Ice Maker cleaning is similar to Monogram Ice Maker cleaning and GE Profile Undercounter Ice Maker cleaning. According to GE Appliances, if the ice maker has a stainless steel door, then the door and door handle should only be cleaned with a stainless steel cleaner. For daily cleaning, according to the Monogram Ice Maker owner's manual, you can clean the door handles and trim with a dampened cloth and soapy water.

The simpler the product, the better off your exterior surfaces will look in the long run. You should never clean the outer surfaces with appliance wax, polish, scouring pads, powdered cleaners, bleach or cleaners containing bleach. Over time they can scratch and damage the finish of the ice maker.

Cleaning the Ice Maker System

To clean the Monogram Ice Maker system, you need first to press and hold the off button. Next, wait about five to 10 minutes for the remaining ice to dispense in the storage bin. After you get rid of all of the ice, unscrew the drain cap at the bottom of the water reservoir and let the water drain.

When the water finishes draining, replace the drain cap and pour the entire bottle of Nickel Safe Ice Machine Cleaner into the water reservoir. Then, fill the bottle twice with tap water and pour the water into the water reservoir. Next, press and hold the clean button. You'll know that the cleaning cycle is running because the clean light will blink.

The cleaning cycle should run about 70 minutes, and you'll know it is finished when the indicator light becomes solid. When the process is over, you need to remove the drain cap to see if there is any cleaning solution left in the water reservoir. If a green liquid drains out, then you need to run the clean cycle one more time. If there is no green cleaner in the water reservoir, then you can secure the drain cap and press the on button to resume the ice production.

Cleaning the Condenser

You should brush or vacuum lint and dirt from the condenser about once a year. If your condenser gets clogged or dirty, it could prevent airflow to the machine, reduce ice making and cause the machine to run at high operating temperatures. To clean the condenser, all you have to do is unplug the ice maker or disconnect the power. Then remove the two screws in the lower access panel and the two screws from the base grille area of the front panel support.

To remove the lower access panel, you need to pull the bottom forward and then pull down. Once the panel is off, you can remove dirt or lint with the vacuum brush attachment. After all of the dirt and lint is removed, replace the lower access panel and plug or reconnect the ice maker's power.
