Use window blots to keep double hung windows from being raised.

The windows also contain tracks that the window moves up and down on as well as the ability to open both the top and bottom portion of the windows. Instructions

  1. Securing with window bolt

    • 1

Close the double hung window, if it is open.

    • 2

Drill a hole at a 45-degree angle using a drill bit the same size as the window pin you purchased, completely through the lower left or right-hand corner of the window into the window's frame. Place the hole so it goes into the side of the window's frame instead of the window's ledge.

If you don't have a power drill, hammer a construction nail into the lower left or right-hand corner of the window into the window's frame at a 45-degree angle.

    • 3

Insert a window pin, also known as a window bolt and found at hardware and home improvement stores, into the hole. If the window pin contains an attached chain, secure the chain to your window's frame using a small construction nail or screw.

    • 4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each corner of your double hung window to secure all four corners of the window.

    • 5

Repeat steps for each double hung window you want to prevent from being opened.

    Securing with metal mesh

    • 6

Close the double hung window, if it is open.

    • 7

Place a piece of metal mesh on the outside of your double hung window. The metal mesh should cover the entire window and its frame.

    • 8

Use a socket wrench or socket wrench adapter on your power drill to secure the metal mesh to the window frame with a round-headed or machine bolt.

Place a bolt on all four corners of the frame.

    • 9

Place a bolt in the upper center of the frame and a bolt on the lower center of the frame. The window should have a total of six round-headed or machine bolts securing the metal mesh to the frame.

    • 10

Repeat steps for each each double hung window you want to prevent from being raised.
