If you are on a computer-to-computer network, having the correct name that clearly identifies your computer enables other users to obtain shared resources when Personal File Sharing is turned on.

Instructions

      Log in with the administrator account and enter the administrator password when prompted.

      Locate the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the Mac. Click and scroll down to "System Preferences."

      Locate the "Internet and Network Pane" and click on the "Sharing" folder.

      Note the "Computer Name" text field at the top of the window that opens, and change the name to your preferred name.

      Click on the lock icon in the bottom left corner to prevent further changes.

      Click on the red window button in the upper left corner of the window to close the window.
