The Palm is a handy way to carry books and other documents with you while traveling. There are many utilities out there that let you read documents on your Palm, as well as bookmarking them and searching within the documents. To make these work for you, augment with a tool that lets you convert any text documents into a document readable by your new Palm readers. And if you really want to keep reading, lots of people have already converted some well-known books to a Palm format.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Convert Documents for Your Palm

Step1
Download a document converter, such as MakeDoc for Windows or Mac Palm Doc for Macintosh.
Step2
Install the downloaded converter.
Step3
Open a text file (or in some cases, an HTML file) you want to convert. Save the file in your Install folder to install with your next HotSync.

Install a Doc Reader

Step1
Download a doc reader, such as AportisDoc or TealDoc (both of these have trial versions).
Step2
Install these on your Palm.
Step3
After your next HotSync, launch your new doc reader program. You should be able to open your newly downloaded documents.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check out the Web site for the doc reader tool you downloaded. There may be additional document converter utilities loaded there, as well as books that others have already converted.
  • If you decide to keep and use one of your doc readers, buy the full version or pay the shareware fee.
