How to Fix Internet Explorer 8 When it Opens Slow

If the Internet Explorer 8 Web browsing software is opening up slowly on your computer, there are a number of different things that could be leading to this. The problem could be with either the program itself or with your computer, and it can be difficult to determine which of these two things is true without doing a little troubleshooting. Troubleshooting will lead you to the problem's solution and have Internet Explorer 8 loading quickly in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Update your computer with Windows Update. A Windows Update shortcut icon is in your "Start" menu. This will ensure that both your operating system and Internet Explorer 8 are completely up-to-date, and any problems that were the result of software incompatibility will be fixed.

    • 2

View the Internet Explorer 8 minimum system requirements and make sure that your computer actually matches these requirements (see References). If your computer is not at least as fast as the minimum system requirements for Internet Explorer 8, the program will load slowly every time. The only thing you can do to fix the problem in this situation is to upgrade your computer's hardware.

    • 3

Right click on your Windows task bar and click "Task Manager" to load the Task Manager. Click "Performance" to view both your CPU usage and your Memory usage. If your CPU usage is approaching 100 percent (or your memory usage is at maximum capacity), Internet Explorer 8 will open slowly on your computer. This means that programs that you have open are using too many of your machine's system resources.

    • 4

Click on the "Processes" tab in the Task Manager to view which individual programs are using the most memory, and then close those programs out to allow Internet Explorer 8 to load much quicker. Start by closing out programs you recognize by name. If you attempt to close an integral Windows system process (these processes should not be closed under any circumstances), a warning alerting you to this fact will appear on screen. Simply click "No" to return to the Task Manager and try to close a different program.
