Teak wood is commonly used in the construction of outdoor furniture. The teak is durable and also resistant to most weathering damage, allowing it to last for years outdoors without deterioration. As with any other type of wood or piece of outdoor furniture, you must properly care for the teak to keep it clean, polished and free of buildup. Things You'll Need

  • Cleaning bucket
  • Dish soap
  • Cleaning rags
  • Teak oil

Instructions

    • 1

      Clean the teak prior to polishing to remove surface dirt. Combine 1 gallon warm water and a squirt of mild dish soap in a bucket.

      Drench a cleaning rag in the solution and squeeze out excess water.

      Wipe the cloth over the teak wood, following the grain.

      Rinse the cloth with clear water, squeeze out excess water again and wipe over the teak to remove soap residue. Allow the wood to air dry.

      Saturate a fresh cleaning rag with teak oil. Wring out the rag slightly.

    • 6

      Rub a thin layer of the teak oil over the entire wood surface and let sit for two hours.

    • 7

      Wipe the excess oil off of the teak with a clean cloth, rubbing in small, circular buffing motions to shine and polish the teak.
