You've gotten addicted to your Palm, and now there are "secrets" on it ... perhaps your little electronic black book. Password-protecting your Palm lets you keep certain records hidden. You can even password-protect your Palm so no one else can use it without your password.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Designate Records as Private

Step1
Create a new appointment on your Palm.
Step2
Tap Details.
Step3
Check Private in the Event Details box.
Step4
Tap OK to close the Event Details box.

Hide the Private Records

Step1
Tap the House icon (Palm IIIx or later) or the Applications icon (Palm III).
Step2
Tap the Security icon (you may need to scroll to the second or third screen to see this icon).
Step3
Tap the box next to Password.
Step4
Enter a password. Tap OK.
Step5
Enter your password again. Tap OK. The field next to Password should now say Assigned.
Step6
Tap Hide to hide Private Records.
Step7
Tape Hide again.
Step8
Your records marked Private will be hidden.
Step9
To see Private records, go back to Security and tap Show. You'll be prompted to enter your password.

Password-Protect Your Entire Device

Step1
First enter a password as described in the preceding section.
Step2
Be sure you are viewing the Security application.
Step3
Tap Turn Off & Lock Device. Be certain you know your password before choosing this!
Step4
Tap Off & Lock.
Step5
Press the On button to turn the device back on. You'll be prompted for your password.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a password that's easy for you to remember and easy for you to write.
  • If you forget your password, tap Forgotten Password on the device. It will delete any private records, but you can get them back at your next HotSync (assuming they were there for your last HotSync).
  • If you Turn Off & Lock Device and you forget your password, you'll need to completely reset your device. You'll be able to HotSync to get information back from your computer, but you'll lose many of your third-party programs. Be careful!
