How to Share an iTunes Library

It's possible to share your iTunes library with other people on a local network. Sharing music allows other people to listen to your music; you can also listen to another person's shared music within iTunes without sharing your own. You can share your music with up to five people on a single network. Share an entire iTunes library or a single playlist.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes
  • Connection to a local network
  • Open the iTunes application.

  • Open the "Edit" menu located in the upper portion of iTunes.

  • Select "Preferences."

  • Click the "Sharing" icon at the top of the dialog box. You can control the settings for shared music within iTunes from this menu.

  • Check the box for "Share my library on my local network."

  • Select to share the entire iTunes library or individual playlists from iTunes.

  • Click "OK." A new playlist, "Shared Music," will appear on the left pane of iTunes.
