How to Balance High School & a Job

Students respond differently when working during high school. Some students are able to manage the added responsibility, while others fall behind in school. A student must find a balance between school and work to be able to succeed in both.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan your school schedule. Schedule the time spent in school, time needed to complete homework and time to study for tests.

    • 2

Decide the amount of hours you want to work and see how they fit it into your school schedule. The hours of work you picked should not affect the time it takes to do homework and to study.

    • 3

Work fewer hours at first. Analyze how working is affecting your school work. Adjust the hours spent at work depending on your academic performance.

    • 4

Talk to teachers to find out when major tests will occur. Start studying for the tests a few days before the scheduled test days. Do not work many hours the day before the test.

    • 5

Sleep eight hours a day. Staying focused in school is extremely important; without the proper amount of sleep, you will not be able to get good grades. Cut back hours at work if necessary.

    • 6

Relax on the weekends. Do not overwork yourself, find time on the weekends to relax and enjoy yourself.
