How to Create Online Coloring Pages for a Website
The Internet offers another way for kids to find pictures to color. This alternative to old fashioned coloring books is more convenient because now they can usually find what they want just by searching online. If you're starting an activity site to keep kids busy, adding coloring pages is something fun you can do without too much hassle. It wouldn't be a good idea to scan and upload existing coloring pages because they are protected by copyright, but you can make your own with even the most simple of graphic editing programs.
Instructions

1
Go to the "Start" menu in Windows and go to "Accessories" then "Paint." You can also use a free program like "Paintbrush" if you have a Mac OS because it has the same basic functions you need to make your coloring pages. A program such as Photoshop will also work if you have it.
-
2
Click "File" then "New" to create a new file and go to "Image" and "Attributes" to size the file so that it is 8 1/2 by 11 inches.
-
-
3
Select the "Line" tool (which is in both the MS Paint and Paintbrush toolbars) and choose the thickness for your lines. There are five thicknesses to choose from; thicker lines are best because they will stand out after the picture has been colored.
-
4
Draw your coloring picture. Use the straight "Line" tool to make simple point-A-to-point-B lines. Click on the "Curve" line tool to make a line and then click and drag any part of the line to make it curve. If you need a simple shape for your drawing, click on the "Rectangle", "Rounded Rectangle" or even the "Polygon." Add small details by selecting the "Brush" and choosing the thickness. Only use black for the lines and keep the picture simple.
-
5
Save the coloring page when you are finished and give it a name like "description-coloring-page" and replace the description with a short title for the picture. Give it the file extension .GIF or .PNG. Upload the coloring page to your server and link to it on your activity website so it can easily be found. Instruct your visitors to right-click on the image and select "Save Image As" to download the image so they can print it.
