How to use Print Screen to Capture a Screen Shot in Microsoft Paint
Screen shot is a function in Microsoft Windows that enables a computer user to obtain a screen capture of everything in sight on your Windows desktop. Screen shots are useful for when a personal computer (PC) user needs to quickly capture an image or data of any kind. A screen shot has many uses and Microsoft includes all of the tools needed to capture the image right on your Windows PC.

Click on the Start button to bring up the Start Menu. Click on All Programs, and then click on the Accessories folder. Open the "Paint" program. Minimize the "Paint" program to the task bar.

Maximize or restore the window or image on the computer screen that you wish to capture; ensure no parts of the desired shot are covered or pushed off sight of the desktop.

Press the "Print Screen" (PrtScn) and the "Alternate" (ALT) keys on your keyboard, simultaneously, creating a "copy" of your computer screen. The "Print Screen" key is usually at the upper part of your keyboard. The "ALT" key is usually at the lower part of your keyboard and there are usually two of them. Please note that keyboard abbreviations and designs vary greatly; attempt to the find the closest matched key on your keyboard.

Maximize or restore "Paint." Find the "Edit" menu at the top of the program, and select "Paste." Be sure to save your data to your hard drive before exiting the program.

Tips & Warnings
Alternatively, press the "Print Screen" and the "Control" (CTRL) keys to capture the screen shot. Also press "CTRL" and "V" to paste the screen shot.
Screen shots cannot capture videos, such as those played in Windows Media Player, nor any shots before you log on to your Windows system.
