How to Fix the Mouse for My Windows XP
Microsoft Windows XP is an operating system available for personal computers, media centers, laptops and business computers. The operating system is responsible for controlling hardware settings for printer and mouse devices. The default Windows XP mouse settings are configured to meet the needs of the average user. These settings may change due to software installations in which the mouse may not properly function.

Click "Start" from the System Tray located at the bottom of the desktop.

Click "Control Panel" from the Start Menu.

Click the "Printers and Other Hardware" icon from the Control Panel dialog box.

Click the "Mouse" icon and then click the "Hardware" tab in the Mouse Properties dialogue box.

Click the "Properties" button.

Choose "Advanced Settings" button and then click the "?" icon located in the top-right corner of the window next to "Wheel Detection," "Sample Rate" and "Input Buffer Length." Helpful tips and advice on how to properly configure your mouse settings will appear.

Perform the necessary tweaks recommended from the hints and tips in step 7.

Press "OK" when all mouse tweaks and configurations have been applied.
