      Measure and cut the fabric so it is 2 inches longer on each side than the artist canvas. If there is a pattern on the fabric, make sure it is straight. Use a variety of fabrics to create added interest but ensure that they complement your room.

      Place your material pattern-side down on a sturdy work surface. Make sure it is completely flat. Lay the artist canvas face-side down on the material, centering it as closely as you can.

      Fold the left edge of the material over the edge of the artist canvas. Staple the fabric at the center of the edge. Pull the right side of the fabric up tight from under the artist canvas and staple the center of the fabric edge.

      Pull the top edge of the fabric down tight and staple it in the center. Repeat for the bottom edge. Work your way around the artist canvas, pulling the material tight and stapling it into place. Check periodically to ensure that there are no wrinkles on the front side of the artist canvas.
