Create your own paper glider.

There are a multitude of paper airplane designs, and they all fly differently, depending on the aerodynamics and design of the airplane. Airplane gliders tend to be designed to fly slowly and long distances. Many gliders are easy to make and are a good place to start for beginner airplane folders. Start with the belly-button glider, with few steps and uncomplicated folds.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the piece of paper vertically on a flat surface. If the paper has a colored side, place the colored side facing down.

    • 2

Fold the top two corners inwards to meet the center line. Crease well.

    • 3

Fold the top tip downward, creasing along the bottom edges of the triangles you just formed.

    • 4

Take the top left corner of the paper and fold it down to meet the center crease, forming a right triangle.

    • 5

Lift the flap you just folded. Fold it up to meet the left edge, forming a small, narrow triangle. The crease meets the bottom left corner of the right triangle you formed in Step 4.

    • 6

Take the top layer of the triangle you just created, and fold it in downward in half.

    • 7

Hold the two layers together, and unfold at the crease you made in Step 5.

    • 8

Repeat Steps 4 through 7 on the right side. You'll have a small triangle pointing downward in the center.

    • 9

Fold the small triangle upward. This is the belly button tip.

    • 10

Form a mountain fold on the center line of the whole model. You'll see the belly button tip on the bottom of the plane.

    • 11

Fold the wings down, forming a diagonal crease from the front tip of the plane along the top of the belly button tip on each side. This completes the glider.

Tips & Warnings

  • For better flying, you can fold the tips up slightly on the back of each wing.
