How to Configure a DLink Switch for a Static IP Address

How to Configure a DLink Switch for a Static IP Address thumbnail
Switches connect network devices.

D-Link manufactures routers and switches for home and office networks. D-Link has a configuration console available through your computer's web browser. The D-Link devices are manufactured and distributed with DHCP settings, which is the protocol that retrieves IP addresses dynamically. You can change these settings to set a static IP address on your D-Link switch. A static IP address does not change, so it is a permanent setting on your network.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Web browser and enter the IP address for your D-Link switch in the navigation text box. The default IP address for D-Link switches and routers is 192.168.0.1.

    • 2

Click the "Home" tab at the top of the configuration console. This displays the current IP settings for the device.

    • 3

Select "Enabled" in the section labeled "Static IP Address." Enter a name for the device in the text box labeled "Name."

    • 4

Enter a static IP address in the second text box. Click "Apply" to save your console settings. The switch now has a static IP address.

Tips & Warnings

  • The static IP address must be unique. It cannot be an IP address already used by another device or computer on the network.
