How to Setup a 5 Piece Drum Set
Different drummers have various personal preferences for setting up the spacing and angles of their five-piece drum set. A five-piece drum set consists of a snare, bass drum, floor tom, two upper toms, and a throne (drum seat). Once you know how to arrange your drum set, you can experiment with different angles and spacing on your own. Always make sure you are playing the drums on a carpeted floor; otherwise they will slide around and the drum stand could become scratched.

1
Position the throne in the center of the drumming area, and put the bass drum slightly to the right of it. Attach the bass-drum pedal to the bottom of the bass drum, and make sure you can easily reach it with your right foot. The legs of the bass drum should be adjusted so that the front of the bass drum does not touch the ground.

2
Put the snare in the snare stand and tighten the stand to lock the snare in place. Put the snare and snare stand slightly to your left but significantly closer than the bass drum.

Attach the two upper toms to the poles on the top of the bass drum. The smaller upper tom goes on the left, and the bigger one goes on the right. You will be able to adjust the angle and spacing of these toms using the knobs of the poles.

Attach the legs to the floor tom, then put the floor tom to your right and slightly in front of you. Play the drums briefly to see how comfortable you are with your set-up, and make slight adjustments as desired.
