How to Use a DLL in Microsoft Access 2003
A DLL file on a computer is a Dynamic Link Library. These files are used by various types of programs to relay information or communicate with the operating system. Microsoft Access 2003 uses DLL files that are included with the installation of Microsoft JET. Microsoft JET is the database engine that can make changes to Microsoft Access database files. You can use a DLL file in Microsoft Access 2003 by installing the latest version of JET on your system.

Determine Current Version of JET

Click the "Start" button and then select the "Search" option.

Select the "All files and folders" option under the "Search Companion" on the left panel.

Type "MsJet40.dll" into the text field under "All or part of the file name."

Right-click the MSJet40.dll file when the list of files appears. Select the "Properties" option from the context menu.

Click the "Version" tab to find the version number.
Download Latest Service Pack

Determine which service pack download is needed based on your operating system. JET4.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8) is available for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000.

Click the "Download" button on the Microsoft Download Center page.

Click the "Save File" button when the download box appears on the screen.

Select a location on your system to save the file such as your desktop or the Local Disk (C:).

Double-click the downloaded file to install the latest Jet 4.0 Service Pack.

Newer versions of JET are available for Windows Vista and Windows 7, which are included with the operating system.
