The Business Plan

Business plans are crucial to the success of a business. Putting together a business plan online can take time and dedication. Overall it defines the business, identifies the goals for the business and serves as a resume for the business. According to the Small Business Administration, the business plan should cover the service or product provided, the potential customers for the service or product and the financial gain the business will receive. Eager business owners shouldn't rush into a business without a plan.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Small Business Administration website. Click on the tab subtitled Small Business Planner. Click on Step 1 "Write a Business Plan." The page will appear, click on the third step down "Writing the Business Plan." Begin typing out your plan starting with the cover sheet. It will include the name of the owner or owners and the name of the business and what type of business it is, if it is a LLC or proprietorship. Decide what purpose your business will serve and write a statement describing what the purpose of the business is. Establish a table of contents; it will highlight everything in the plan.

Write about the business. In the plan include independent sections; these sections are short paragraphs that will describe your business. Each section should have a subtitle: Marketing, Competition, Operating Procedures and Personnel. Describe the type of market the business will be, the type of competition the business will be up against, and the people the business will hire, by researching the target areas.

Plan the financial goals of the business. Will the business need a start up loan, what type of equipment or supplies will be needed to begin? Begin to write out the funds that will be needed for the plan. Create a balance sheet to see the money that will be going in and out of the business. Write a three-year financial summary for the business, what is the expected financial gain over the next three years.
