How Do I Get the NTP Status on a Windows Server?

Windows Server 2008 is able to obtain the time from the Internet using the Network Time Protocol (NTP). Accurate and consistent timekeeping is critical for logging features and database timestamps. NTP allows a server to maintain an accurate time, even when its timekeeping battery begins to fail. The system's current NTP usage settings can be obtained from the date and time control panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into the Windows system using an account that has administrative privileges.

    • 2

Double-click the date and time on the lower-right corner of the task bar. Click the "Change date and time settings..." link.

    • 3

      Click the "Internet Time" tab.

    • 4

Look at the text in the tab. It will tell you if the server is set to synchronize to an Internet time server and will specify the update interval.

    • 5

Click "Change settings" and enter your administrative credentials if you wish to modify your NTP settings. You can disable or enable NTP synchronization by clicking the check box that appears.
