How to Convert an ISBN to Other ISBN13

Since 2007, ISBN numbers have been 13 digits, and are commonly referred to as an "ISBN-13." According to Albion Research, before the International ISBN Agency introduced the 13-digit ISBN numbers, the standard was a 10-digit ISBN number, which is commonly referred to as an "ISBN-10." If you have some ISBN numbers that you got before the new 13-digit numbers were introduced, it's not hard to convert your old ISBN to the other ISBN-13 number.

Instructions

    • 1

Get out your old ISBN-10 number. If the book has already been printed, you can usually locate the ISBN on the back cover or on the interior copyright page.

    • 2

Log on to the ISBN Agency's ISBN Online Converter website (see Resources). It is free to use online ISBN conversion tool if you do one conversion at a time (at the time of writing, fees apply if you want to do 10 or more conversions at once).

    • 3

Enter in your ISBN number that you want to convert, on the ISBN conversion website, and click "Submit." The 13-digit ISBN field will auto-populate with the converted ISBN-13 number for you.
