1
Pick out a design that matches the stair treads and railing. Use the same building material as the railing for proper installation, for example, if you have a wood railing, choose wood balusters.
-
2
Measure the circumference of the top of the stair baluster. Most spindles have the measurement printed on the top and bottom as well. Drill a hole on the underside of the stair railing, which is the size of the circumference of the baluster by using a hand drill and same size drill bit.

Apply a generous amount of wood glue to the baluster that will be inserted into the railing. If using metal balusters, use epoxy instead of wood glue. Slide the baluster into the drilled hole on the bottom of the railing. Wipe away any excess glue that may ooze out. Continue this process for all of the balusters. Allow the balusters to dry in the railing for 24 hours before continuing.

Apply wood glue, or epoxy, to the bottom of the balusters where the stair tread and balusters will meet. Insert the baluster on the stair tread and wipe away any excess, if the staircase is long, have someone assist you at the top of the railing and bottom.
