Install a pool heater

Swimming pool heaters are a wonderful addition to your swimming pool's plumbing system. The heater sits between the pool filter and pool return jet. The water pumps through the filter, then through the heater, which heats the water to a set temperature and pumps it back into the pool. Installing a swimming pool heater requires a few materials, but will leave you with a beautiful, warm swimming experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the pool pump from the power source by unplugging the electrical cord.

    • 2

Clean the pool skimmer by removing the skimmer basket and emptying any debris or dirt within the basket.

    • 3

Place the pool heater on a level area about 2 to 3 feet from the pool filter. Use paving stones and a leveling tool, if needed, to ensure the area is level.

    • 4

Use a piece of PVC pipe to connect the pool filter return valve to the inlet valve on the pool heater. The valves are labeled, and if needed, there are diagrams in the owner's manual. Use a small saw to cut the PVC pipe to fit the area.

    • 5

Connect the pool sidewall return jet to the pool heater outlet valve with another piece of PVC pipe.

    • 6

Turn the pool heather thermostat to the desired temperature. Restore power to the pool pump and wait for the water to begin cycling through the pump, filter and heater.
