Viruses can be very destructive to your files.

Computers can get viruses several different ways. You can get a virus in an email or through a shared disk that you copied a program or file from. Most often, computer viruses attack your computer while you are online and visiting a site that has viruses hidden in it, or you download a program that acts as a Trojan horse. Fortunately, there is specific software made to combat viruses.

Instructions

Purchase a computer antivirus program. You can buy a more expensive program like McAfee, or find free virus software online. Price isn't always indicative of how well a program works, however. Many free programs work well. You should purchase the software from a store or download it from a non-infected computer and put it on disk.

Disconnect your computer from the Internet. Insert the antivirus program disk and install the program. Your computer will probably have to be restarted.

    • 3

Start the antivirus program and choose the option to check all of your computer's files. This may take several hours. Some viruses can't be deleted or fixed right away, and you may have to restart and run the program again at the software's prompting.

I could use some help if anyone has any ideas. My boyfriend has a desktop computer that seems to have gotten a virus. He managed to turn it on in safe mode once and was able to back up his files but now if you turn on the computer it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor bar for typing and that's it. ctr-alt-delete still will respond and restart but no f buttons work and it doesn't go past that. Can this be fixed? Please any help would be great.
