How to Configure an Internet Explorer Web Proxy

In networking, a proxy is a special server placed between the user's (client's) computer and the rest of the network. During Internet surfing, your computer communicates only with the proxy server, which then retrieves the requested information from the Internet. Proxy servers speed up the Internet connection due to webpage caching, as well as providing enhanced network security. Microsoft Internet Explorer, a default web browser in Windows, supports proxy; configure the corresponding settings using the Internet Options menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your system administrator or your Internet service provider (ISP) to find out the proxy server IP address.

    • 2

Open Internet Explorer on your computer.

    • 3
