Instructions

    • 1

Measure the circumference and height of the lampshade. Keep in mind that many lampshades flare out, meaning the bottom of the shade will be larger in circumference than the top.

    • 2

Purchase enough ribbon to fit around the entire area of the shade. You can purchase ribbon all the same color for a uniform look or ribbon of different colors and widths for a more creative look.

    • 3

Cut the ribbon into strips so that one strip can fit once around the shade. Keep in mind that you'll want 1/8 inch extra for overlapping.

    • 4

Apply a small pea-sized dot of fabric glue to one end of the first ribbon strip. Press the end of the ribbon to the top of the lampshade, at the shade's seam. Wrap the ribbon around the circumference of the shade. Apply a second dot of glue to the other end of the ribbon strip. Press the ribbon down, overlapping the first ribbon slightly.

    • 5

Repeat Step 3 with the remaining strips of ribbon until the entire lampshade is complete. Remember to overlap each strip slightly with the one above it to prevent the shade from showing through.
