How to Create Quality Organizational Charts for Free
Organizational charts help create a visual flow of projects, programs, work or assignments. Spreadsheets, word processors and drawing programs can be used to create any form of organizational chart, which consists of squares, rectangles, circles, triangles or ovals. Each object is linked together in a hierarchy with titles. The following instructions are for Microsoft PowerPoint.

Open your PowerPoint presentation and select the slide to insert the organizational chart.

Click "diagram" from the "insert" menu. Select the shape to use in creating your organizational chart from the "diagram."

Click "insert shape" from the "organizational chart" menu. Position the shape in the slide and repeat for each shape until your chart is complete.

Select the "connector" lines by clicking the "autoshapes" menu on the "drawing" toolbar. Click at the edge of one shape, moving to the next shape, and click. Repeat for each connector.

Select the "font" wizard to adjust text and text color from the "format" menu. Choose your colors from the "format" menu. Type the text into each shape.

Tips & Warnings
The "draw" toolbar is available in Microsoft Word and Excel. You'll find one shortcut in the "autoformat" option from the "organizational chart" menu. Select the style you want to use and change the colors and font through the "draw" toolbar. Free software is available to help with creating organizational charts. (See resources.)
