How to Cure Caulk

Caulk is a material used to seal and insulate joints. This is especially important around tubs and showers as it prevents water from getting in cracks and potentially causing mold growth. Caulk is also used around windows and doors to give a better seal, which in turn reduces drafts and cuts down on utility costs. After caulk is applied it has to go through the curing process, which is essentially a brief time period where the caulk sits without being disturbed.

Instructions

1. Smooth the caulk out if it is in plain sight, such as around a tub or shower. You can smooth it out by dipping your finger in water and running it down the entire length of the caulk.

2. Open windows or turn on a fan to promote air flow in the room. Caulk tends to dry slower in rooms without air movement.

3. Refrain from taking showers or adding any extra moisture in the room. The more dry the room is, the faster the caulk will dry.

4. Wait at least 48 hours for the caulk to cure. You can tell it's ready when it feels completely dry to the touch.
