How to Sleep on a Box Spring

How to Sleep on a Box Spring thumbnail
Sleeping on a box spring can be more comfortable than sleeping on the floor.

Box springs are support boxes made out of wood and covered in cloth with coiled springs in the middle. They lend support to mattresses to extend mattress life. The mattress rests on top of the box spring, which has springs that absorb some of the weight of the person sleeping on the bed. This helps reduce wear and tear on the mattress materials. Box springs require a mattress and are not intended to function as mattresses themselves, but you can sleep on one if you need to. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out a sleeping bag flat across the box spring to cover as much of the surface as you can.

    • 2

Inflate an air mattress with a pump and then close the air valve. Place the air mattress on top of the sleeping bag to provide extra cushioning. The sleeping bag will prevent the air mattress from sliding off.

    • 3

Position a mattress pad on top of the air mattress. Get a pad the same size as the air mattress and box spring or cut the pad down if it is too large.

    • 4

Tuck sheets in over the mattress pad and between the air mattress and the box spring.

    • 5

Reinflate the air mattress each night before going to sleep to maintain support. It will lose air gradually throughout the day.
