How to Create a Free Slide Show
From the time of white bed sheets tacked to the wall and old time projectors, slide shows have been a traditional staple of family reunions and parties. With the introduction of computer software and multimedia options in most home PCs, slide shows have taken on a whole new look, adding music, animation, and other special effects to cherished family memories. In a few simple steps, free slide show presentations can easily be created.

- Photos
- Music
- Computer with internet and DVD burner
- Scanner
- Slideshow software
- Video Clips (optional)
- Blank DVD that is compatible with your DVD burner

Write out a plan for your slideshow. For example, if you are creating the slideshow for a special person, you might want to consider including baby pictures, special times with friends and family, and milestones in that person's life such as graduation or wedding.

Look through your photos carefully to be sure they aren't grainy or blurry, and that they are a good representation of your subject.

Download all your photos into one file, or scan them into your computer with a scanner. Open the folder so you can view the photos in a row, then using your mouse, drag them into the order you wish for them to appear in your slideshow.

Choose the music you wish to include in your slideshow. How many songs you need will be based on how many pictures you have and how you want to convey your themes. For example, "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle is a good choice for a woman's baby and girlhood pictures.

Check to see if you have software on your computer to make a slide show, some basic versions of Windows come with a "Movie Maker" that has a slideshow option. This will allow you to add your photos, music and captions, and also comes with special effects options. According to Kim Kommando's website, Microsoft's Photo Story and Irfanview are also good choices. You can also download Kizoa, which is a free software with slideshow capabilities. Slide is a site that will allow you to create slideshows to share on many online networking sites.

Using the DVD burning software on your computer, burn your slideshow on to a blank DVD.

According to Sands of Time Multimedia Creations, a couple of video clips can enhance your slideshow and make it more enjoyable. Consider adding a few video files to your slideshow from a digital video camera or DVD.
Always be sure that you have a virus and spyware program installed to check any free software you plan to download onto your computer.
