How to Do the Card Float Illusion for Free
Magic tricks have been performed for centuries, utilizing illusion to give the appearance that a magician is performing a feat otherwise thought to be impossible. Card magic is one of the most commonly displayed forms of magic because it is easy to carry around a deck of cards that can be used for a number of tricks. The magic floating card trick is an illusion which makes it appear that a card has risen off the deck on its own, hovering and spinning over the other cards.
Instructions

1
Cut a piece of fishing line so that it is just long enough to reach from your ear to your outstretched hand.
-
2
Cut two small squares of clear tape, and use one to secure one end of the line behind your ear.
-
-
3
Attach the other end of the string to the center of the card you wish to make spin. A tap on the deck is a great way to attach the square unnoticed. You can attach the square as part of the magic motion which brings the card from the middle of the deck to the top.
-
4
Catch the line between two fingers of the hand you will be using to "float" the card.
-
5
Pull your hand in close to your body to allow the card to fall away from the floating hand.
-
6
Extend your hand out to make the card rise up to meet your hand. If your string is properly cut, fully extending your hand will cause the card to rise right into your palm without breaking the line, allowing you to make it rise in then fall back down if desired.
