How to Build a Sub Box for a Truck

How to Build a Sub Box for a Truck thumbnail
Trucks have a very limited amount of space for a sub box

Building a sub box for a pickup truck is often a tricky task. Unlike car trunks, trucks have very limited space for a subwoofer box. Subwoofer boxes for trucks tend to be thin, tall and wide. Although a tall, thin and wide subwoofer box is suitable, it must be built with a particular interior volume to properly accommodate a subwoofer. If the interior volume of a subwoofer box is too small or too large, the performance of the subwoofer will suffer.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the place in the truck that the subwoofer box will be installed. Subwoofer boxes are typically installed between the seats and the back wall of the cab.

    • 2

Calculate the size and dimensions of the subwoofer box. Utilize a subwoofer enclosure calculator, available at The 12 Volt's website, and insert the values for the diameter of the subwoofer, depth of the subwoofer, and required volume for the subwoofer box. These values can be found in the manufacturer's manual of the subwoofer. Adjust the values of the subwoofer enclosure calculator according to the size constraints of the truck.

    • 3

Cut out and label the six sides to the subwoofer box. Also, draw the subwoofer hole using a compass placed in the middle of the front panel. The subwoofer hole should be the diameter of the subwoofer. Draw the hole for the terminal cup on the rear panel. Cut out these holes using a jigsaw.

    • 4

Attach all six sides of the subwoofer box together using 2-inch screws. Pre-drill three holes along each seam and add carpenter's glue to the seams to increase the strength of the subwoofer box. Once the box is together, seal off the interior of the subwoofer box using silicone caulking. This caulking should be placed along every seam of the subwoofer box and allowed to dry for 24 hours.
