2005 Ford Expedition: Spark Plug Installation
The 2005 Ford Expedition's spark plugs need to be checked and replaced every 30,000 miles. If you don't, you could end up with an engine that misfires or won't start at all. Replacement spark plugs are available at most auto parts stores. The plugs are responsible for making sure that the engine's fuel is ignited and that the fuel burns properly. If you are having problems with your engine's gas mileage or you suspect that the plugs might need replacing, you will need to know how the process is done.
Things You'll Need
- Socket wrench
- Spark plug socket
- Socket extension
- Replacement spark plugs
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the hood of your expedition and pull one of the spark plug wires off of the top of the engine.
-
2
Lower the spark plug socket and socket extension down into the plug well and turn the spark plug counterclockwise with a socket wrench.
-
-
3
Pull the spark plug up out of the engine with the socket.
-
4
Take the old spark plug out of the socket and insert a new plug into the socket.
-
5
Lower the spark plug into the engine and tighten the new spark plug. Be careful when threading the new spark plug. These spark plugs can cross-thread very easily. Once you've gotten the first few threads started, you can tighten the plug without worrying about cross-threading. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.
-
6
Repeat the process outlines in the first five steps for all of the spark plugs.
