How to Clean Glass With a Propane Torch
Window glass is exposed to dirt and detriment from the environment 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hand cleaning a window glass with cleaning fluids can only do so much; using a propane torch to clean the glass accomplishes more in less time. Proper work clothing, including gloves and protective goggles, are a requirement when using a propane torch to clean glass. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Newspaper
- Window glass cleaning fluid
- Work gloves
- Safety goggles
- Non-flammable drop cloth
- Barbecue lighter

Apply window glass cleaning fluid to a clean sheet of newspaper. Wipe the side of the window glass that the propane torch is to be used on with the newspaper. Throw the newspaper away. Wait an hour for the glass cleaning fluid to dry.

Place a non-flammable drop cloth around the bottom of the glass window--on the window sill or on the floor if the glass window is full-length.

Put on a pair of work gloves and safety goggles. Hold the propane torch in your prominent hand. Release the valve on the propane torch with the fingers of your other hand.

Hold a barbecue lighter in your free hand. Place the tip of the lighter a few inches away from the front nozzle of the propane torch. Press the lighter’s button to ignite the propane torch’s flame.

Carefully place the flame from the propane torch a few inches away from the glass. Move the nozzle of the propane torch back and forth in a slow, swirling motion. Remove the propane torch from the window glass after 10 seconds have passed.

Reapply the flame from the propane torch in the same manner as was done before, if needed.

Turn the valve on the propane torch to kill the flame. Put the propane torch safely away.

Apply window glass cleaning fluid to a clean sheet of newspaper. Wipe the area where the flame from the propane torch was applied with the newspaper. Throw the newspaper away.

Tips & Warnings
Aim a bright light source at the glass so that you can clearly see any debris.
Purchase a propane torch from a hardware store or hobby shop.
Keep children and small pets away from the area where you are using the propane torch.
Stop using the propane torch when the fuel supply is less than 1/4 of the total amount available.
