Removing the rear seat from the 2003 Chevrolet Impala is simple. The bottom seat is held on by a clamp and the top one is held on by a series of bolts. Removal of the seat is necessary if you are replacing the seats, or having the old seats reupholstered. The Impala also uses a seat-belt system that will not interfere with the removal. They can be simply pushed aside to make room.
Things You'll Need
- Socket wrench
- Socket set
Open the back doors for extra room to work. Slide both front seats all the way to the forward position.
Lift the bottom cushion out by pushing the seat down and toward the back of the car. This will release the clamp holding the seat down. Pull the seat out and slide it out the door.
Lower the seat backs as if you were attempting to gain access the trunk. This will expose several bolts to unscrew.
Unscrew the bolts with a socket wrench. This will free up the seat from the bracket.
Slide the seat off the bracket. Tilt it up and pull it out of the back door. Ensure the seats are stored in a dry area.
Tips & Warnings
- You will have more room to work if you tilt the front seats forward. The headrest should be resting against the dash.
- Use assistance to lift the seat out of the back door if necessary.
