How to Validate Credit Card Information

When making purchases over the Internet (or over the phone) you often must validate your credit card information. You can see the 16-digit code on the front of the card, but there is additional information that confirms the card is legit and you are its owner.

  • Provide complete billing information on the online form, including the billing address. Add a separate billing address if different from your mailing address.

  • Include the telephone number and full name as it appears on the credit card account. Without the same information the online retailer may void the transaction.

  • Type in the expiration date located on the front of the card.

  • Add the three-digit code on the back right side of most credit cards, such as Visa and MasterCard. The American Express card has a four-digit number on the front of the card.
