A well written cover letter can help you find a job in the public relations field.

Public relations is all about communication. When you work in the public relations field, it's your job to communicate to the public everything your clients have to offer. You may represent small businesses, nonprofit organizations, individuals or large corporations. Because communication is such an important part of the job, you need to make sure you communicate your skills and experience effectively in your cover letter.

Instructions

    • 1

Type your name and contact information, including your address, phone number and email, at the top of your cover letter.

    • 2

Type the name of the recipient, his title, the company or firm and the address beneath your information.

    • 3

Include the date you plan to send the cover letter below the recipient's information.

    • 4

Add a professional greeting that addresses the recipient directly, such as "Dear Mr. Smith," below the date.

    • 5

State the specific public relations job you're applying for and where you heard of it in the first paragraph of your cover letter.

    • 6

Explain your relevant experience and skills in the second paragraph of the cover letter. These skills should be as relevant as possible to the position you're applying for. For example, in the public relations field, valuable skills include excellent customer service, experience dealing with the media and the ability to write PR materials, such as press releases.

    • 7

Thank the recipient for reviewing your cover letter in the third and final paragraph. Also, mention when you're available to come in and interview for the public relations position.

    • 8

End your cover letter with a professional closing, such as "Sincerely." Type your name three or four spaces below the closing, and sign your name in that space once you print out the cover letter.
