How to Get a Job in WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is a third-generation family owned company that has grown into the most successful professional wrestling company in the world. While the company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, the vast majority of the company shares are owned by Vince McMahon, who is the company CEO. The WWE produces original television and pay-per-view content year-round and is a leader in merchandise and DVD sales. It also produces feature films. With the expansion of its global operations, the WWE is frequently hiring for a number of positions but getting a job with the WWE takes persistence and the proper experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Get an education in the field you are interested in pursuing. The WWE expects its employees to have work experience before they get hired. If you want to be a wrestler, go to a wrestling school to learn the craft. If you want to be part of the TV crew, go to trade school to learn about the proper equipment and the details of working live events. Writers should pursue college degrees in English or other writing-related endeavors.

    • 2

Start small. Get work experience by working for other companies in a similar field that you wish to pursue with the WWE. Wrestlers need to work for independent wrestling companies, while production or business people should apply to companies that are hiring in their field. Entertainment-based companies are even better potential employers since they more closely resemble the WWE corporate culture.

    • 3

Work at smaller wrestling promotions in your area. Wrestlers can perfect ring technique, and lighting technicians, writers and other crew should volunteer for the experience of working in the same specific industry as the WWE, although the WWE sees itself as more of a global entertainment company than as a wrestling promoter. You may not get paid much (or at all) but the experience will be invaluable.

    • 4

Check trade papers and the WWE corporate website to keep abreast of when the WWE is hiring and if a job position fits your specific qualifications.

    • 5

Apply for any positions that you have experience and qualifications for. Even if it is not the job you want in the WWE, it could be a way of transitioning into your dream job and "getting your foot in the door." Wrestlers are more likely to be contacted by the WWE directly and should have a tape of their wrestling highlights ready to be sent in upon request. Also be prepared to accept a position as an intern if you truly want to work for the WWE and work your way up in the company.

Tips & Warnings

  • The WWE main offices are in Stamford, CT. They also have regional offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Shanghai, Tokyo and Toronto. You would likely need to move to one of these cities if you got hired.

  • Persistence is your best asset. The entertainment business is difficult to break into on any level but the opportunity could open up at any time.

  • Wrestlers should always have an education and another plan for making income in case the WWE job never happens for them. Career-ending injuries could happen at any time.
