How to Find a Server Serial Number

Save

There are literally millions of different kinds of servers throughout the world, from small home servers to gigantic servers in disaster-shielded underground data centers. Fortunately, every dedicated server in existence has a serial number stamped on it at the factory, and finding the serial number won't force you to disconnect your server or your users.

  • Alert your users that you'll be doing some slight maintenance on your server.

  • Open the WMIC command line prompt. The method will vary between Windows server versions, so check your user's guide if you're unsure of how to proceed.

  • Type "wmic bios get serialnumber" and press "Enter."

  • Record the serial number and store it for future use.
