How to Import to Google Maps

Google Map's "Import" feature let's you upload map data, such as pictures and POI (Points of Interest), from online sources or maps saved on your computer. So whether you want to upload a route created by another user or you'd like to reload a map you've saved, you can upload any map saved in KML, KMZ or GeoRSS format.

Instructions

      Navigate your Web browser over to the Google Maps home page. Click on the "My Maps" heading, located in the top left corner of the page, and then click on the "Get Started" button to continue. Log into your Google Account.

      Click on the "Import" heading, located in the top left corner of the page. The "Import KML" menu will appear in the center of the page.

      Click on the "Browse" button, to locate a KML file on your computer using the file explorer window that appears. Click "Upload" to import your file.

      Upload a map from a web address by copying and pasting the address of the KML map into the field labeled "Or enter the url of map data on the web." Click anywhere outside of the field after you've pasted the address--the "Upload" button will change to "Upload from URL." Click on the "Upload from URL" button to begin importing your map data.
