How to Reinstall Windows XP on a Dell 690

Windows XP was the 13th major installment of the Windows operating system. With this version, Microsoft fused technology from business versions of Windows and versions for home-users to make one operating system that could be efficiently used by anybody, regardless of their needs. Windows XP was also the first to have a 64-bit edition which made multitasking run smoother and faster than previous editions. While it has notable technical and security flaws, it's far superior to its predecessors.

• Windows XP installation disc

Instructions

1. Back up any important files to blank discs as the entire hard drive will be wiped out upon reinstalling Windows XP.

2. Insert the Windows XP installation disc in the computer's disc drive and restart the computer.

3. Watch the start-up screen and wait for the Dell logo to appear. Press the F12 key immediately when the Dell logo pops up.

4. Follow the on-screen directions from the Windows XP installation wizard to complete the process. The entire installation process should take between one and two hours.
