How to Keep Water in an Inflatable Pool Clear

A pool that is properly cared for stays clean and safe for swimmers. A pool requires regular vacuuming and chemical treatments to keep its water clear and healthy. Regular cleaning of the pool's bottom keeps debris and other substances from clouding the pool water or staining the pool liner. Vacuuming is performed with the equipment that comes with the pool or with a water hose through back siphoning. Periodic chemical applications eliminate any wastes or contaminates in the pool water. The most common chemicals used to eliminate wastes in pools are chlorine and algaecide.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum equipment
• Water hose
• Gloves
• Chlorine shock
• Algaecide

Instructions

1. Clean the pool bottom through vacuuming. Assemble the vacuuming equipment that came with the pool or get a water hose. Prime the vacuum or start the hose back siphoning and run it over the pool bottom. Focus the vacuum or hose on any areas containing debris. Move over the pool bottom until all debris is removed from the pool.

2. Shock the pool with a chlorine treatment. Use the proper amount of shock as recommended on the shock's label. Pre-dissolve the chlorine shock by mixing it with water in a five-gallon bucket. Pour the mixture into the pool water slowly and allow the shock to completely dissolve into the pool water. Wait five to six hours after applying a shock treatment before allowing swimmers into the pool water.

3. Apply an algaecide to the pool water. Move around the outside edge of the pool and pour in the recommended dosage of algaecide. Wait two to three hours after applying an algaecide treatment before allowing swimmers into the pool water.

Tips & Warnings

• Wear hand protection when handling chemicals.

• Never mix different types of pool chemicals. Wait at least an hour in between chemical applications.
