How to Make a Clear Glaze for Paint

Clear glazing liquids can give a glossy finish to bold paint colors.

Clear glazes enhance latex-based paint with a glossy, satin finish. In addition to a satin look, clear glaze can help make latex paint appear more translucent. It is commonly used in a variety of faux finishes such as sponge painting, color washing, stippling and rag rolling. Things You'll Need

• Clear glazing liquid
• Latex-based paint
• Stirring sticks
• Plastic container
• Paint brush
• Scrap wood
• Primer

Instructions

1. Open the clear glazing liquid and the latex-based paint. Stir each container until each is blended well.

2. Mix together four to eight parts of clear glazing liquid with one part of paint. Stir the liquids together until they are completely blended.

3. Paint a scrap of wood or a small section of wall, then wait for it to dry.

4. Survey the dried product to determine if it meets with your desired results. If you want a more transparent look, mix more glazing liquid into the mixture.

5. Prime the painting area and allow it to dry. Paint the dry, primed surface with the glaze and paint mixture.
