How to Remove a Stuck Barrel on a Ruger 10/22

The Ruger model 10/22 is arguably the most popular .22 caliber rifle in the country. The rifles are well made, balanced and reliable. Since their introduction in 1964, Ruger has produced millions of 10/22 rifles. The rifle is designed for simplicity and ease of maintenance. If the barrel is stuck in the stock, there is a good chance that you have not disassembled it properly. Proper adherence to the disassembly procedure will likely correct your problem.

Things You'll Need

• Small flat-head screwdriver

Instructions

1. Ensure that your Ruger 10/22 rifle is unloaded.

2. Cock the rifle and verify that the bolt is closed.

3. Move the safety (located before the trigger) so that the button is centered with an equal amount protruding from either side of the rifle. Improper safety positioning can cause the barrel to stick and possibly damage the rifle. If your barrel is stuck, the safety is most likely the cause.

4. Remove the barrel and receiver by lifting them out of the stock.
