How to Make the Trade Mark Sign
Whether you're quoting from an established, protected source or you want to show that you've taken the steps to protect your own work, adding the trademark sign of a small capital TM, is a simple process. Through a variety of programs, you can use pre-set trademark symbols, draw your own or even make one appear quickly by just typing a few numbers on your keyboard.
Instructions
-
Using Publisher
-
1
Open a Publisher document to add the trademark sign to and click the "Text Box" tool, which looks like an index card with an "A" on it on the left side of the screen.
-
2
Draw a text box onto your document. Pull down the "Insert" menu and select "Symbol." If the "Symbols" tab is not already activated, click it.
-
-
3
Pull down the "Font" menu and select the font you're using, then scroll through the boxes until you see the "TM" symbol and double-click it, then click "Cancel." When the box closes, the trademark sign will be on your document. Drag it into place with your cursor.
Using Paint
-
4
Draw your own trademark symbol using Paint; open Paint and click the "Image" menu, then choose "Attributes." Set the dimensions for the symbol, such as 1 inch by 1 inch, then click the "OK" button.
-
5
Pull down the "View" menu and select "Zoom" and "Large Size." This doesn't increase your dimensions; it just gives you more room to draw.
-
6
Click the "Paintbrush" tool, choose the large square brush head, then select a color such as black or red from the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the screen. Use your cursor to draw the "T" and the "M" of the "TM" symbol.
-
7
(Optional) Click the "Circle" tool, then choose the hollow rectangle below it and draw a circle around the symbol.
Using Word
-
8
Open your Word document and position your cursor after the word or item to add the sign to.
-
9
Press and hold down the "Alt" key, then type the numbers 0153. The "TM" symbol appears in superscript.
-
10
Highlight the letters and use the text toolbar at the top of the page to change their size, font or color.
